2021 Vintage

Harvest Notes

Harvest Date: August 31-September 10, 2021

The 2021 vintage marked the second consecutive year of record-low rainfall, with our vineyard receiving less than 8 inches from January to March. The resulting growing season, however, proved to be spectacular. An early start was followed by plenty of sunshine and mostly warm but not-too-hot conditions. We experienced a few heat spikes in June and later in the summer, but overall, the growing conditions spoke to a terrific vintage.

Yields started out small and maintained that theme into harvest, with fewer clusters, smaller berries, and early sugar loading. The harvest was smooth and our picking decisions were based on fruit quality and not forced by Mother Nature.

Tasting Notes

Wine Produced: 670 cases

Alcohol: 14.8%

Varietal Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

This Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied wine with rich, generous tannins. Savory notes of dried herbs and licorice, and a firm minerality, are complemented with intense black fruits of cherry and fresh blueberries, along with floral notes of lavender and incense, and a long lingering finish.

Ratings and Reviews

“A big, dramatic Cabernet, the 2021 races across the palate with an exotic mélange of black cherry, gravel, incense, tobacco and scorched earth. This hillside site at 1400–1600 feet in elevation, above Calistoga, yields wines of true distinction. There’s tremendous power and sheer thrust here, not to mention tons of personality.” (Oct. 2022)
